VANITHA S. RAMAN
Dr. Vanitha S. Raman is a Senior Research Investigator in the Gene Therapy Program at the University of Pennsylvania, wherein she provides support to the Immunology core to understand immune responses against Adeno associated virus-based gene therapy. Prior to this position she worked at the Uniformed Services University (Bethesda, MD) from July 2013- August 2016. During this period, she set up a BSL2 lab to help study vaccine-induced immune responses in volunteers that participated in the Naval Medical Research Center's malaria vaccine studies. Prior to this position, she worked at the Infectious Disease Research Institute (IDRI, Seattle, WA) from 2006- 2012 to develop vaccines against several diseases including malaria, influenza, leprosy, and leishmaniasis. During this period, she studied vaccines and adjuvants that transitioned into clinical trials. Before taking up the role at IDRI, Dr. Raman explored the role of Tumor necrosis factor family of receptors and Toll-like receptors in humoral immunity`. She has published her work in top-tier journals and has also been invited to write reviews. During the course of her career, she has trained fellow scientists on different immunoassays, managed multiple projects, and collaborated successfully across scientific barriers.
